Bluewater Fishing

An isolated & undisturbed fisherman’s paradise

The unspoiled waters of Alphonse and St. François Atolls are home to the most incredible variety of bluewater fish species, translating into a great destination for offshore fishing. The structure and sheer drop-offs are ideal for attracting a variety of pelagic species that can be caught on fly as well as conventional trawling methods. Fish such as Sailfish, Wahoo, Dogtooth Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna and Dorado can be challenged on any given day. Anglers can choose to either spend a half or full day targeting some of the hard fighting fish on offer.

Although Alphonse practices a strict “No Conventional/Spin Fishing” on or close to the islands, flats and reef to preserve the resident species that use the shallow reef as an access point onto the flats and surrounding areas, fish can be caught for consumption. Guests are therefore invited to bring their catch back to shore and liaise with our chefs to prepare it fresh for dinner.

Equipment

Alphonse Fishing Tackle & Gear Shop

All of our fishing equipment rods and reels are of the Shimano brand, which is amongst the highest quality available on the market. Ranging from Light 30 lbs rigs (perfect for switching Sailfish and the ever-present Wahoo) to the Heavy 130 lbs rigs (ideal for going all-out when targeting the Marlin who frequent our diverse waters, attracted by the abundance of various baitfish in the area). All of our rigs are stand-up rigs.

For the more avid spin fisherman, we are well equipped with top of the range Shimano Stella reels paired with 8 ft popping rods. This will put you in prime position to take on the large Yellowfin Tuna that quite happily terrorize the resident Flying Fish population and will readily inhale a popper off the surface.
