Fly Fishing

World-class flats and bluewater fly fishing

Considered a fly angler's paradise, the expansive flats surrounding the Alphonse atolls provide the fly fishing experience of a lifetime. This spectacular wilderness has ten thousand acres of hard white sand flats which provide easy wading and world class sight-fishing. The Alphonse group is one of the most famed saltwater fly fishing destinations in the Indian Ocean and is one of the most prolific Bonefish fisheries in the world.

The atolls are home to incredibly large populations of not only Bonefish, but also 3 different types of Triggerfish, Barracuda, snapper, grouper, Indo-Pacific Permit, parrotfish, 8 species of trevally (including the Giant Trevally), and the incomparable Milkfish. This diversity gives anglers the opportunity to target a myriad of different species during their stay. The St. François fishery caters for just 12 fly anglers at a time to maintain excellence and sustainability.

Guides

The Most Experienced Recreational Angling Team in the Seychelles

To ensure the ultimate fishing experience, an international team of knowledgeable guides and qualified managers are on hand to share their passion for this unique fishery and its environment.

Alphonse has several full time fly fishing guides that are all professionals and have a very comprehensive knowledge of the areas in which they operate. They are all fluent in English and some speak French and Creole. Guiding takes place on a rotational basis allowing anglers to experience all the different characters within the guide team. Anglers will fish in pairs sharing a skiff and guide each day, or a supplement can be paid to secure a single skiff and private guide.

All the guides carry waterproof VHF radios and are in constant communication with each other as well as the base on Alphonse. They are all qualified skippers and their boat handling skills are impeccable. Many of the guides also hold qualifications in the field of ecology, and therefore conservation best practises are always applied along with our catch-and-release policy.

Boats and Skiffs

Let’s Rock this Boat!

Anglers are transferred for the short run from Alphonse to St. François lagoon where the fishing skiffs are kept anchored. The skiffs range between 16 to 17ft in length and have single tiller arm engines. Guests require a level of fitness that will enable them to board the skiffs, as it will be their only means of transport around St. François when fishing. All the skiffs are equipped with flares, flotation devices, first aid kits, rod holders, storage compartments, anchors and cooler boxes.

There are 3 offshore vessels which can be chartered for bluewater fly fishing. The Alphonse skippers and deckhands are experienced at rigging, teasing and switching to all the different bluewater pelagic species, such as Sailfish, Wahoo, Dogtooth and Yellowfin Tuna.
